The idea is to never stop learning, by giving small businesses the building blocks they need to be confident and successful, you can be part of the growth of our economy.

How Does it Work?

An accredited training program at NQF4 provides the platform for a small business to understand aspects of business management and run an efficient operation. Finding the right candidates is a key aspect to the success of a CSI initiative and a rigorous recruitment and pre-assessment process can help with this identification process. On-going support and coaching for the entrepreneur provides a solid foundation for a small business to develop and grow, which in turn creates job opportunities.

How is the Program Structured?

Mod 1: Identifying Business Opportunities

Every new business starts with an idea. An idea that creates a new business opportunity which has a unique selling proposition. Creativity and innovative thinking must be explored before building the business plan that will spell out the structure of your business.

This module covers the following topics:

  • The Entrepreneurial Profile
  • Investigating Business Opportunities
  • Developing a Business Plan

Mod 2: Developing Strategy

Planning is what is it is all about! Starting a new venture without the correct planning can lead to failure which is what every entrepreneur wants to avoid. Understanding the market that you will enter, and the legislative requirements will give you solid tools to plan correctly and seek funding opportunities.

This module covers the following topics:

  • The need for Strategic Planning
  • Economics & Capital Requirements
  • Marketing & Customer Service

Mod 3: Technology in the Business World

More and more, making effective use of technology is going to add a success factor to your venture. As a new business owner, you need to know how to make the best use of the technology available to you and have a foundational knowledge of numbers and statistics.

This module covers the following topics:

  • Spreadsheets and Documents
  • Working with Numbers
  • Technology in the Workplace

Mod 4: Develop & Implement Quality Processes

As your business grows, you are going to need effective communication skills to sell your ideas, communicate with customers, investors and suppliers, as well as your internal staff. Having well structured HR polices, and employment processes, will make your team function as a focused and productive unit.

  • People in the Workplace
  • Contracts & Legislation

Mod 5: Managing Your Finances

One of the primary success factors for a new business is paying attention to the finances. This can be the make or break factor, a solid understanding of how the finances work for a business is key. The same goes for being able to present your business using a variety of communication methods.

This module covers the following topics:

  • Promoting Your Business
  • Understanding Business Finances
  • Managing Budgets

Mod 6: Operations Management

Defining strategies for a long term view of your business is an essential requirement. Strategy extends to how you negotiate, how you measure your performance and how you lead your team. Investing the time in developing strategic growth plans and identifying areas for improvement can set you up for success.

  • Negotiation Strategies
  • Measuring Business Performance
  • Leading by Example

Mod 7: Business Specialisations

Every small business will fall into an industry sector, whether the business provides products or services to the transport industry, the construction industry or runs a retail operation. This module allows small business owners to select a specialisation where they will receive further education and training on managing a business in their chosen sector.
